Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday praised the latest round of U.S. sanctions targeting Russia’s energy sector, describing them as a “strong and much-needed message” of international resolve against Moscow’s aggression.

The new measures, announced by U.S. President Donald Trump in coordination with the European Union, aim to tighten restrictions on Russia’s oil and gas revenues — a key source of funding for its war efforts in Ukraine.
Zelensky commended the move, saying it demonstrated continued Western unity and a shared commitment to holding Russia accountable. “This is a powerful signal that aggression will not go unpunished,” he said in a statement.

The Ukrainian leader added that such coordinated sanctions were essential to weakening Russia’s capacity to sustain its military operations and urged further global efforts to “cut off the financial flows feeding the war.”
