A former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), has formally withdrawn his legal representation for the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.Agabi, who has been part of Kanu’s defence team in the ongoing terrorism-related trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja, notified the court of his decision through a formal application.
The development comes amid reports that Kanu, dissatisfied with the handling of his case, has decided to personally take over his defence.Sources close to the courtroom confirmed that the withdrawal application was duly filed and communicated to the prosecution and the trial judge.
Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his re-arrest in 2021, is facing multiple charges bordering on treasonable felony and terrorism.The court is expected to take up the matter at the next adjourned date to determine the way forward following the withdrawal of Agabi and other members of the defence team.
