The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old boy, identified as Auwalu Muhammad, for allegedly removing the eyes of his 7-year-old sister, Rukayya Muhammad, for suspected money ritual purposes.The disturbing incident occurred on October 17, 2025, in Wailo town, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.According to a statement issued on Monday, October 20, by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the suspect lured his younger sister into a nearby bush, where he brutally attacked her and plucked out both eyes.
Following the attack, Rukayya was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for urgent medical attention. However, an ophthalmologist at the hospital confirmed that the little girl had suffered permanent blindness and would never regain her sight.Wakil further disclosed that the command had arrested five other suspects linked to a ritualist syndicate believed to have influenced the boy’s actions.He said, “On October 17, 2025, at about 6:00 p.m., one Muhammad Adamu of Bayan Dutse Village, Wailo, Kubi Ward, Ganjuwa LGA, reported to the Soro Divisional Police Headquarters that his 7-year-old daughter, Rukayya Muhammad, was attacked by her 17-year-old brother, Auwal Dahiru, who attempted to kill her and removed her eyes.”Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Soro Division, CSP Aliyu Mohammad Goni, led a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was apprehended.
The police also arrested five others allegedly connected to the ritual act. They include:1. Auwal Dahiru, 17, of Bayan Dutse, Wailo, Kubi Ward2. Mohammed Rabiu, 193. Saleh Ibrahim, 204. Garba Dahiru, 43, of Soro town, Ganjuwa LGAWakil said preliminary investigations revealed that the attack was carried out as part of a ritual arrangement allegedly promised to bring the suspects wealth.He added that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.The police spokesperson described the incident as “a heinous and heartbreaking crime,” assuring that the command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served.
