The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State has reported that at least 21 people lost their lives, while 144 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in road crashes recorded across the state between January and October 2025.The Sector Commander, Mrs. Bridget Asekhauno, disclosed this on Sunday in Awka while reviewing the Corps’ road safety operations within the period under review.
According to her, the fatalities and injuries resulted from a total of 86 crashes involving commercial and private vehicles across major highways and urban roads in the state.Asekhauno attributed most of the accidents to speeding, wrongful overtaking, and lack of vehicle maintenance, noting that drivers’ disregard for traffic regulations remained a major concern.She said, “Out of the 86 crashes recorded, 21 deaths and 144 injuries were documented. Many of these incidents were avoidable if motorists had exercised patience and adhered to safety rules.
”The sector commander further stated that the command had intensified public enlightenment campaigns and enforcement operations to reduce road carnage ahead of the year-end rush.She urged drivers to always obey traffic laws, avoid overloading, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, adding that the FRSC would continue to work with relevant agencies to ensure safer roads in Anambra State.
