The Edo State Police Command has successfully foiled a kidnap attempt along the Igarra–Ibillo highway in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the state.According to a statement released on Sunday, operatives attached to the Igarra Division were on routine patrol when they encountered a group of armed men attempting to abduct traders traveling in a commercial vehicle.The police team promptly engaged the suspects in a gun duel, forcing them to flee into the nearby forest.
All the victims were safely rescued, and no casualties were recorded among the traders or officers.Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident, noting that efforts are underway to track down the fleeing suspects through intensified bush combing and intelligence operations.He commended the swift response of the officers and assured residents that the command remains fully committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered continuous patrols along major highways and flashpoints in the state to prevent further attacks,” the statement added.
