The Lagos State Government on Monday re-arraigned convicted billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, before the state High Court sitting in Ikeja.Evans was brought before Justice Adenike Coker alongside his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, on fresh charges bordering on the murder of police officers attached to the Lagos State Command during his criminal operations.
According to the new charge, the defendants are accused of conspiring and killing the officers while carrying out kidnapping activities in the state, an offence punishable under the Criminal Law of Lagos State.The state prosecution told the court that Evans and his accomplice committed the crime around 2017, during the peak of the kidnapperβs notorious reign across Lagos and neighboring states.Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Justice Coker adjourned the case for further hearing and continuation of trial.Evans is already serving a life sentence after being convicted in 2022 for masterminding multiple high-profile kidnappings across Nigeria.
