The Rivers State Police Command has dismantled a notorious child trafficking network that specialized in exploiting young mothers and pregnant women before selling their babies to waiting buyers.According to a statement released on Monday, police operatives uncovered the syndicate following a series of intelligence-led operations across parts of the state.
The suspects, now in custody, allegedly lured vulnerable women under false pretenses, manipulated them into giving up their newborns, and sold the babies to individuals seeking illegal adoptions.Several infants were rescued during the operation and have since been taken into protective custody while investigations continue.
The police assured the public that all those involved in the criminal ring will face prosecution, reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking and protecting the rights of women and children in Rivers State.
