President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered a full-scale investigation into the gruesome killing of Ms. Somtochukwu “Sommie” Maduagwu, a news anchor with Arise News Television, who was murdered in Abuja during a suspected robbery attack.In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the President described the incident as “barbaric and heartbreaking,” noting that the brutal death of a young journalist in the line of duty was an assault on the media, society, and the values of justice.
Tinubu extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the management and staff of Arise News, and the Nigerian media community at large. He assured that government would not rest until those responsible for the heinous crime were apprehended and prosecuted.“The murder of Ms. Maduagwu is a national tragedy and an attack on press freedom. I have directed security agencies to leave no stone unturned in tracking down the perpetrators and ensuring they face the full weight of the law,” the President said.The late Somtochukwu Maduagwu, popularly known as Sommie, was a promising young broadcaster whose career was cut short by the tragic incident.
