Shettima Arrives in New York for UNGA 80Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in New York, United States, to participate in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which officially opens on Monday and runs until September 28.Shettima, who is representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will join world leaders, diplomats, and policymakers to deliberate on pressing global challenges, including peace and security, climate change, food systems, and sustainable development.During the week-long summit, the Vice President is scheduled to attend high-level plenary sessions as well as side meetings focused on energy transition, investment opportunities in Africa, and financing for sustainable development.
He is also expected to hold bilateral talks with leaders of partner nations, heads of international organizations, and global business executives, with a focus on strengthening economic cooperation, attracting foreign direct investment, and advancing Nigeria’s role in global trade.In addition, Shettima will meet with members of the Nigerian diaspora community in the United States to discuss government policies, national development priorities, and ways to deepen diaspora contributions to Nigeria’s growth.
The Vice President’s participation in UNGA 80 underscores Nigeria’s commitment to active engagement in multilateral diplomacy and its determination to seek collaborative solutions to shared global challenges.
