Makinde Emerges as PDP’s Only Remaining Governor in the South — Full List

News

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has become the last serving governor from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in southern Nigeria. This follows a series of electoral defeats and political shifts that have reduced the party’s influence across the region.

The PDP once dominated the South with multiple governors, but over the last election cycles, the party lost control of states such as Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Abia, Edo and others to opposition parties. With these changes, Makinde now stands as the party’s sole governor in the entire southern bloc.

Current PDP Governors (Full List):

South:

  • Oyo State – Seyi Makinde (Only one remaining)

North:

  • Adamawa – Ahmadu Fintiri
  • Bauchi – Bala Mohammed
  • Taraba – Agbu Kefas
  • Plateau – Caleb Mutfwang

Political analysts say Makinde’s position places significant responsibility on him as the PDP works to rebuild its structure in the South and regain support ahead of future elections.
