Notorious bandit leader Bello Turji has claimed responsibility for a series of recent attacks in parts of northwestern Nigeria, declaring that his group is prepared either to negotiate with the government or continue armed confrontation.
In a video message circulating online, Turji said his fighters remain open to dialogue if authorities are genuinely interested in finding a lasting solution to the insecurity plaguing the region. However, he warned that they are equally prepared for further conflict if the government chooses a military approach.
According to him, his group carried out the recent attacks as part of what he described as retaliation against security operations and local vigilante activities in areas under their influence.
Turji, who has long been one of the most wanted bandit leaders in the country, accused the government of failing to honor previous peace arrangements and alleged that military operations have continued despite efforts by some parties to seek reconciliation.
He stated that negotiations remain possible but insisted that any talks must involve mutual trust and guarantees for all parties involved.
The Federal Government and security agencies have yet to officially respond to the latest remarks. Authorities have repeatedly maintained that criminal groups responsible for killings, kidnappings, and other violent crimes will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
Turji’s comments come amid renewed concerns over insecurity in several communities across the Northwest, where bandit attacks, abductions, and clashes with security forces have continued to threaten lives and livelihoods.
