Troops Neutralize 18 Terrorists in Major Borno Operation

News

Nigerian Army troops have recorded a significant victory in the fight against insurgency following a successful operation that led to the neutralization of 18 terrorists in Borno State.

According to military sources, the coordinated offensive was carried out in a notorious hideout used by insurgents for planning attacks and storing weapons. The operation, which involved ground troops with air support, targeted terrorist enclaves in the general area of the Lake Chad region.

Security officials confirmed that the terrorists engaged the troops in a fierce gun battle but were overpowered by the superior firepower of the joint forces. Eighteen fighters were neutralized, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.

Recovered from the scene were assorted weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and logistics items believed to have been used for recent attacks on civilians and security personnel.

The military noted that the successful operation is part of ongoing efforts to clear remaining pockets of insurgents and restore peace to communities affected by terrorism in the Northeast.

Residents in nearby communities expressed relief following the development, hoping it would reduce the frequency of attacks and improve security in the region.

Troops have since intensified clearance operations to ensure the area is fully secured.
