The Nigeria Police Force has issued a firm warning that any officer caught providing escort or personal security for Very Important Persons (VIPs) will be arrested.
According to the Force Headquarters, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has classified such VIP protection duties as illegal unless expressly approved by the Police High Command.
The police noted that many officers continue to attach themselves to politicians, businessmen, and other influential individuals without authorization. The IGP emphasized that this practice is against police regulations and undermines operational effectiveness.
The directive mandates commissioners of police and zonal commanders to immediately retrieve officers illegally assigned to VIPs and ensure full compliance nationwide.
The Force added that officers must be deployed strictly based on approved operational needs, warning that defaulters—both officers and the VIPs who engage them—will face sanctions.
