Comedian and actor AY Makun has stirred conversations on social media after sharing a cautionary message about fake friendships and people who capitalize on negativity for personal gain.
In a post on X, AY urged his followers to be wary of anyone who calls them a friend but rushes to amplify negative news just to trend or earn money online. He noted that not everyone who appears close actually wishes them well.
According to him:
“Beware of anyone who calls you a friend yet rushes to jump on any negative news about you just to trend and gain monetization. Not everyone around you wishes you well. May God protect us from friends who are truly enemies in disguise. Their karma is never far.”
However, the post sparked mixed reactions.
Shortly after AY’s tweet, an X user replied claiming the comedian once ignored him many years ago in Surulere. The user alleged that they met around 2008 or 2009, AY handed him a card, and when he called the number, it was a personal assistant who picked up repeatedly. He went on to accuse AY of “nepotism,” adding:
“If Alibaba treat you as you treat others, you for no dey where you dey today. Beware of yourself.”
AY wasted no time responding. He dismissed the claim as false and clarified that he did not have a personal assistant in 2008, as he was still struggling to build his career then. He further stated that anyone familiar with the Nigerian comedy industry would know that his relationship with veteran comedian Alibaba has never been strained.
The exchange has since continued to generate debate among fans, with many weighing in on the realities of friendship, fame, and online clout-chasing.
