A United States senator has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating that Nigeria is still grappling with the same persistent wave of terrorist attacks despite repeated promises of reform and improved security.
Speaking during a congressional briefing on global security concerns, the senator expressed deep concern over what he described as “a lack of meaningful progress” in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.
He noted that communities in the North-East, North-West, and parts of the Middle Belt continue to suffer from attacks by insurgents, bandits, and extremist groups.According to him, the international community expected more decisive action and clearer results from Nigeria’s new leadership, especially after the government pledged to prioritize security as its top agenda.
Instead, the senator argued, violent incidents, mass abductions, and targeted killings have remained an alarming reality for many Nigerians.He emphasized that the U.S. is ready to support Nigeria, but warned that without stronger political will, better security coordination, and improved intelligence-sharing, the cycle of violence will continue unchecked.
The remarks have sparked reactions across Nigeria, with some citizens agreeing that the security situation remains dire, while supporters of the administration argue that the Senator’s comments overlook ongoing military operations and recent gains.
The Tinubu government is yet to respond to the criticism, but officials have previously maintained that they are working tirelessly to restore peace and stability across the country.
