Pope Leo XIV on Sunday commended what he described as “significant progress” in ongoing efforts to achieve peace in Gaza.Speaking during his weekly address at the Vatican, the pontiff expressed hope that the recent diplomatic breakthroughs would pave the way for an enduring ceasefire in the war-ravaged Palestinian enclave.
He renewed his appeal for an immediate end to hostilities and urged all parties involved to prioritise humanitarian concerns, particularly the protection of civilians.
The Pope also called for the swift release of all Israeli hostages still held by Hamas, stressing that “true peace is built on justice, compassion, and the courage to forgive.”His remarks come amid renewed international efforts to broker a lasting truce between Israel and Hamas after months of devastating conflict.
