Chichester City’s Billy Vigar, ex-Arsenal academy striker, dies after brain injury
Chichester City Football Club has announced the death of forward Billy Vigar, a former Arsenal academy prospect, who passed away after suffering what the club described as a “significant brain injury.”
Vigar, 21, had joined Chichester City earlier this year after a spell in Arsenal’s youth ranks, where he came through the Hale End academy system and featured for the club’s U18s and U23s. He also had stints on loan with Derby County and Eastbourne Borough before moving into non-league football.
Confirming the tragic news, Chichester City expressed their devastation in a statement:
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Billy Vigar. Billy was a talented footballer, a committed teammate, and above all, a wonderful young man whose presence lit up the dressing room. He will be greatly missed by everyone at the club.”
The statement added that the striker’s death followed complications from a severe brain injury, though further details were not disclosed.
Arsenal also paid tribute to their former youth player, writing:
“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of our former academy striker, Billy Vigar. Billy will be remembered not only for his talent on the pitch but also for his character and determination off it. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time.
Supporters, teammates, and fellow clubs have since taken to social media to honour Vigar, describing him as a gifted footballer with a bright future whose life was tragically cut short.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
