Israeli Airstrikes Kill Nine in Yemenโs Rebel-Held Capital
At least nine people were killed and more than 170 injured on Thursday when Israeli airstrikes targeted Sanaa, the Yemeni capital controlled by Huthi rebels, the group announced.
The strikes came less than 24 hours after the Iran-backed rebels launched a drone attack on southern Israel, escalating tensions in the region.
Huthi officials said residential areas and public facilities in Sanaa were hit, leaving dozens trapped under rubble as emergency teams worked through the day to rescue survivors. Local hospitals reported being overwhelmed by the influx of casualties.
Israel has not immediately commented on the attack, but security sources suggest it was a direct retaliation for the rebelsโ drone assault, which struck near the southern Israeli city of Eilat on Wednesday.
The latest exchange marks a sharp intensification in the conflict, drawing Yemenโs Huthi fighters deeper into the Israel-Gaza war and raising fears of wider regional instability.
