The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has shaken the political landscape after announcing the expulsion of several top members, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, and the party’s National Secretary Sen. Samuel Anyanwu.

The major decision was taken during the party’s two-day National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where delegates voted overwhelmingly to remove the affected members over alleged anti-party activities.

The motion for their expulsion was moved by PDP founding father Chief Bode George and seconded by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State. In total, around 10 party members were expelled in one of the most controversial shakeups in recent PDP history.

List of Expelled Members Includes:

Nyesom WikeSamuel Anyanwu

Ayo Fayose

Dan Orbih

Mao Ohuabunwa

George Turner

Abraham Ammah

Umar Bature

Austin Nwachukwu

Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), among others

According to the party, the expulsions were necessary to restore discipline and reposition the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, the decision has sparked disagreement within the party. Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang openly distanced himself, saying the move was never discussed at the PDP Governors’ Forum or at the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri also faulted the action, warning that such drastic steps could further divide the already-fractured party.Meanwhile, loyalists of the expelled members have dismissed the convention’s decision. Aide to Wike, Lere Olayinka, described the gathering as nothing more than a “jamboree,” claiming delegates were simply kicking off an early “Detty December” rather than taking serious decisions.

The development comes shortly after a court ruling allowed the convention to proceed despite attempts by a Wike-aligned faction to stop it.

The event, held at the Liberty Stadium, also witnessed pockets of tension as angry delegates reportedly tore down posters of absent governors. The convention further dissolved the National Working Committee led by Umar Damagum and approved fresh leadership to steer the party forward. With reactions still pouring in, the PDP now faces renewed questions about its unity and direction as the 2027 elections draw closer.
