Ossai Ovie Success, an aide to the Delta State Governor, has called for the arrest of a young woman who alleged that a controversial event described as a “Festival of Rape” took place in Ekpan, Delta State.
The governor’s aide made the call in a post shared on his X account, where he dismissed the woman’s allegation, claiming that his investigations revealed no evidence that such an event had taken place.
Ossai accused the woman of allegedly making the claim to attract attention and generate engagement on TikTok. He described the allegation as misleading and damaging to the image of Delta State.
“This girl came out to lie to the public that there was a so-called Festival of Rape in Ekpan few days ago, but from all findings, NOTHING of such happened,” he wrote.
He further stated that the allegation was unacceptable and called on relevant authorities to arrest the woman and demand evidence to support her claims.
According to him, individuals should not be allowed to spread what he considers false information about Delta State simply to gain popularity on social media.
Ossai maintained that the woman should be held accountable if her allegation is proven to be false.
However, the controversy has raised questions about the need for a proper investigation to establish the facts surrounding the allegation, rather than dismissing claims of sexual violence without thorough verification.
