All Progressives Congress (APC) spokesperson Alwan Hassan has alleged that some ministers pay billions of naira to secure ministerial appointments under President Bola Tinubu and previous administrations.
Hassan made the claim during an interview on Arise TV, where he discussed concerns surrounding political appointments and the alleged financial interests associated with securing government positions.
According to him, some individuals invest huge sums of money to become ministers and subsequently focus on recovering the money they spent to secure their appointments.
He suggested that such alleged practices could influence the priorities of some political officeholders, with the desire to recoup their investments potentially taking precedence over public service.
His comments have renewed attention on concerns about the cost of securing political appointments in Nigeria, accountability in government, and the need for public officials to prioritise the interests of citizens.
However, Hassan’s allegations would require independent verification, and the claims should not be taken as proof that all ministers engage in such practices.
