Political commentator Caesar Francis has offered an explanation for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s reported support for President Bola Tinubu, suggesting that the governor’s decision may be driven more by political survival than personal affection for the president.
According to Francis, those who believe Adeleke is supporting Tinubu because he loves him or is indifferent to the suffering of Nigerians may be misunderstanding the political circumstances surrounding the governor.
Francis claimed that Osun State is facing a major financial challenge, alleging that all 30 local government areas in the state have been unable to access their federal allocations.
He further stated that more than ₦216 billion in accumulated allocations had reportedly been withheld from Osun State by the Federal Government since February 2025.
According to him, the situation has significantly affected the governor’s ability to execute projects and deliver development across the state.
Francis suggested that Adeleke’s relationship with Tinubu could therefore be a strategic political move aimed at protecting his administration and improving his chances of political survival.
The development has sparked discussions about the influence of federal-state relations, access to public funds and political alliances on the decisions of elected officials.
Adeleke, who won re-election under the Accord Party, has continued to attract attention over his political direction and relationship with the ruling political establishment.
However, the claims regarding the withheld allocations and the reasons behind Adeleke’s reported support for Tinubu would require further verification.
What do you think? Is Governor Adeleke making a strategic move for political survival, or should he take a different political position?
