JUST IN: 30 Feared Killed, Many Abducted in Niger Bandit Attack

News

At least 30 people are feared dead while many others were abducted after armed bandits attacked a village market in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

The attack reportedly occurred on market day when traders and residents had gathered to buy and sell goods. Witnesses said the gunmen stormed the market in large numbers, shooting sporadically and causing panic among traders and buyers.

Several people were killed on the spot, while others were taken away by the attackers to an unknown location. Many residents fled into nearby bushes to escape the violence.

Security operatives were said to have been alerted and later moved into the area, but the attackers had already escaped before their arrival. The injured victims were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

As of the time of filing this report, the Niger State Government and security agencies are yet to release an official statement on the incident. However, efforts are reportedly ongoing to track down the attackers and rescue those abducted.

The attack has thrown the affected community into mourning and renewed concerns over the worsening security situation in parts of Niger State and the North-Central region.
