At least 25 people are feared dead after a wooden canoe carrying 52 passengers capsized in Yobe State on Saturday, sparking a desperate rescue operation.
The accident occurred while the canoe was crossing a river in the state. According to local sources, the boat became unstable and overturned mid-journey, throwing passengers into the water.
So far, 13 people have been rescued alive, while 14 others remain missing as search and rescue efforts continue. Community members and emergency responders are working together to locate the missing passengers.
Authorities suspect that overloading may have contributed to the tragedy, though investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The state government has expressed sympathy with the families of the victims and urged residents to adhere strictly to safety measures when travelling by water to prevent similar incidents in the future.
