A 64-year-old man, identified as Abubakar Aliyu, has confessed to sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl at his medicine shop in Arawa Quarters, Gombe State.
Aliyu, who is a grandfather, was arrested after the girl’s mother reported the incident to security authorities.
During questioning on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the suspect reportedly admitted that the abuse occurred three times.
According to Aliyu, the girl visited his shop at about 11 p.m. to purchase medicine. He claimed that he initially told her it was late and advised her to return home, but later lured her into the abuse.
He further disclosed that the girl’s mother became suspicious after she returned home and asked where she had been. The girl reportedly mentioned his shop.
Aliyu admitted that he gave the girl money on different occasions, including ₦200 and ₦400.
Asked why he committed the offence, the suspect described his actions as a temptation and said he regretted what he had done.
He also claimed that his wife had warned him to stay away from the girl, but he ignored her advice.
The suspect was paraded by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Public Relations Officer, CSC Saad Buhari.
Aliyu reportedly expressed regret, saying the incident had damaged his reputation in the community and that he intended to relocate because he feared possible reactions from residents.
Authorities are expected to take further legal action against the suspect following the investigation.
