Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force Northwest Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully rescued 22 kidnapped victims during separate operations in Sokoto State.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operations were carried out following credible intelligence reports and distress calls regarding terrorist activities in parts of the state.

He said the successful missions demonstrate the commitment of the military operation to protecting lives and property while creating a secure environment for citizens to carry out their daily activities without fear.

The first incident occurred along the Sabon Birni–Shinkafi Road near Kura Mota Village, where armed terrorists reportedly attacked two commercial vehicles. During the attack, the gunmen killed one civilian and abducted several passengers.

Upon receiving the report, troops swiftly mobilized to the area and launched a coordinated pursuit operation supported by air assets. The sustained pressure mounted on the terrorists forced them to abandon their captives and flee, leading to the rescue of 17 kidnapped passengers.

In a separate operation at Chohi Village in Isa Local Government Area, troops responded to reports that armed terrorists were attempting to abduct farmers working on their farmlands.

Security personnel immediately deployed to the area and pursued the attackers along their escape route. The operation resulted in the successful rescue of five abducted farmers, who were later reunited with their families.

Following the rescues, troops conducted confidence-building patrols in nearby communities, including Gidan Rana and Gidan Sale villages, to reassure residents and strengthen security presence across the affected areas.

Lieutenant Colonel Danja reaffirmed the military’s commitment to denying terrorists freedom of action and ensuring lasting peace and stability across communities in the Northwest region.
