The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 55-year-old Lagos businessman, Onuigbo Ndubisi Chinedu, over his alleged involvement in an international cocaine trafficking syndicate.
According to NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, Chinedu, a clothing trader at Balogun Market on Lagos Island, was arrested on Thursday, July 23, 2026, after operatives intercepted 3.30 kilograms of cocaine concealed inside the walls of cartons used to package food items destined for the United Kingdom. The shipment was discovered at the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Wednesday, July 22.
Babafemi explained that investigations initially led to the arrest of three cargo agents—Nkwor Onyekachukwu Justina, Adeleke Abiola Taoheed, and Ukanwa Grace Pilgrim—who processed the shipment. Their interrogation later resulted in the arrest of Kenneth Okakpu, who delivered the consignment to the agents.

Further investigations allegedly identified Chinedu as the suspected mastermind of the drug trafficking network. He was eventually arrested while allegedly attempting to send another cocaine shipment to the UK.
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives arrested 31-year-old entrepreneur Emmanuella Chukwu-Edo at her residence in Surulere, Lagos, on Tuesday, July 21, following the seizure of 2.80 kilograms of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis. The illicit drug had arrived from the United States aboard a United Airlines flight on Monday, July 20.
Meanwhile, the agency also intercepted another shipment containing tramadol tablets cleverly concealed inside containers of black soap. The consignment, which was also bound for the United Kingdom, was seized at a courier company in Lagos on Wednesday, July 22.
The NDLEA said the operations underscore its continued efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and prevent illicit substances from being exported through Nigeria.
