Colombian music superstar Shakira has revealed why she selected Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy to feature on the official 2026 FIFA World Cup anthem, “Dai Dai.”
Speaking in a recent interview, Shakira said she wanted a strong male voice that would perfectly complement the song’s energetic Afrobeats sound and match the passion and intensity of the FIFA World Cup.
According to the Grammy-winning singer, the tournament carries a powerful masculine energy, making Burna Boy the ideal artist for the collaboration.
“Once I had the song, I felt it needed a male vocal. The World Cup carries a big male energy, and I wanted someone with a very masculine voice for an Afrobeats setting,” she explained.
Shakira added that she has admired Burna Boy for a long time and had always hoped to work with him on a global project.
The singer noted that while Dai Dai blends Caribbean and R&B influences, Afrobeats is at the heart of the track, making Burna Boy the perfect collaborator to bring the song to life.
Released in May 2026, “Dai Dai” serves as the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and supports the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, with proceeds helping to provide education opportunities for children around the world.
