A female student of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has shared a disturbing account of how she was allegedly assaulted by a soldier during the invasion of off-campus student hostels in Osogbo.
According to the student, the incident occurred on Monday night when armed military personnel, reportedly attached to the Depot Nigerian Army in Osogbo, stormed several hostels occupied by students.
Recounting her experience, she alleged that one of the soldiers forced his way into the bathroom area where she had sought safety, pinned her against the bathroom door, and physically assaulted her despite her pleas.
The student said the attack left her traumatized and fearful, adding that many students were beaten, harassed, and had their phones and other personal belongings confiscated during the operation.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with students and members of the public demanding accountability and justice for those affected.
Reacting to the allegations, the Commandant of the Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, ordered a full investigation into the reported assault and harassment involving the soldiers. The Army stated that anyone found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with military regulations.
UNIOSUN management has also condemned the incident and called for a thorough investigation, urging security agencies to ensure the safety of students and prevent a recurrence.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.
