Awka, Anambra State – Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have rescued a 15-year-old pregnant girl and arrested a suspect identified as Tochukwu Nwora in connection with alleged child defilement and sexual exploitation.
The operation took place on the evening of Wednesday, June 17, 2026, around St. Paul’s Secondary School in the Achalla area. Police acted on intelligence about youths involved in the use and distribution of crystal methamphetamine, popularly known as Mkpuru Mmiri.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, officers arrested Tochukwu Nwora during the raid after observing him in a compromising situation with the minor. The victim was immediately taken into protective custody.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the 15-year-old girl had allegedly been repeatedly defiled by several adult males at different times in Nando, Nteje, and Achalla communities. The suspects reportedly exploited her vulnerable condition by giving her small amounts of money.
The rescued girl has been taken to the Police Hospital in Awka for medical examinations and necessary procedures. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation, with particular attention to whether the victim’s parent or guardian bears any culpability in the alleged exploitation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikoye Orutugu, has directed a comprehensive probe into the matter. In a statement, the police condemned all forms of child abuse, exploitation, and violence against minors, reaffirming their commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring justice for victims.
This incident has highlighted the growing concern over child sexual exploitation in parts of Anambra State, where vulnerable minors are reportedly lured with drugs and meagre sums of money. Child rights advocates continue to call for stronger community vigilance and swift prosecution of perpetrators to deter such crimes.
