Landlord Detained as Police Investigate Death of 23-Year-Old Nursing Student in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has taken a landlord into custody for questioning following the suspected murder of a 23-year-old nursing student whose lifeless body was discovered in her residence in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, June 18.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed investigators to intensify efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the student’s death and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

The case has been transferred from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for a comprehensive and discreet investigation.

Police said the incident was reported on June 14, 2026, after the young woman’s body was found inside the compound where she lived as a tenant.

Officers who visited the scene reportedly observed a deep cut on her thigh, other signs of violence on her body, and blood stains around the premises, raising strong suspicions of foul play.

Further investigations revealed that the deceased was a student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor.

As part of ongoing inquiries, the landlord of the property has been taken into custody and is currently being interrogated by investigators. The victim’s body has been deposited in a hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

The Police Commissioner has assured the public that a thorough and professional investigation is underway and urged anyone with useful information that could assist the probe to come forward.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the deceased and holding anyone found responsible accountable under the law.
