Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has alleged that certain individuals are sponsoring insecurity across the country in a bid to distract President Bola Tinubu and tarnish his administration’s image.
The governor made the claim while speaking at the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the upcoming Local Government Council elections in Edo South Senatorial District.
According to Okpebholo, the recent rise in insecurity is politically motivated and aimed at undermining the federal government. He insisted that such actions would not help opposition figures achieve their political ambitions.
“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock,” the governor declared. “What is happening today is the handiwork of the opposition. They have failed. Have they not failed? Is it by kidnapping children? Then who are you going to govern? There will be nobody for you to govern. So let them give us peace so that we can rule well.”
He further stated that even if those behind the insecurity intensified their actions, it would not change the political landscape.
“They can even kidnap all of us—yes, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock,” he said.
Okpebholo maintained that promoting insecurity would not secure seats in the Senate, House of Representatives, or the presidency, stressing that Nigerians should reject such tactics.
The governor also praised President Tinubu’s leadership, saying the administration had achieved more than previous governments. He noted that the benefits of the fuel subsidy removal policy were already evident through various developmental projects across Edo State.
Commending candidates who emerged victorious in the APC primary elections, Okpebholo expressed confidence that the party would perform strongly in the forthcoming council polls.
He added that the expected victories would further strengthen the party’s position ahead of the 2027 general elections and help deliver the 2.5 million votes earlier pledged to President Tinubu.
