At least 16 people are feared to have been killed after armed bandits launched a deadly attack on a community in Katsina State shortly after Juma’at prayers.

According to reports, the attackers stormed the community in large numbers, opening fire on residents and causing widespread panic. Witnesses said many people were caught off guard as the assault occurred shortly after worshippers had returned from the mosque.

Several residents reportedly sustained injuries during the attack, while others fled into nearby bushes and surrounding communities for safety. The exact number of casualties is yet to be officially confirmed, but local sources fear that no fewer than 16 people lost their lives.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the persistent insecurity affecting parts of Katsina State and the wider North-West region, where bandit attacks, kidnappings, and killings have continued despite ongoing security operations.

Security personnel have reportedly been deployed to the area, while efforts are underway to restore calm and assess the full extent of the damage caused by the attack.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the incident as investigations continue.
