The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has issued a fresh safety advisory to Nigerians living in South Africa following renewed concerns over xenophobic tensions in parts of the country.

In a statement, the commission urged Nigerians to exercise extreme caution, particularly by avoiding protest areas and limiting unnecessary movement. It also advised business owners to consider temporarily shutting down operations in volatile locations to reduce the risk of being targeted.

The warning comes amid reports of rising hostility and isolated attacks against foreign nationals, including Nigerians, in some South African communities. NiDCOM stressed the importance of prioritizing personal safety and remaining vigilant at all times.

Nigerians in the country were further encouraged to stay connected with community leaders and the Nigerian High Commission, as well as monitor credible news sources for updates on the situation.

Reassuring citizens, NiDCOM stated that it is closely monitoring developments and engaging relevant authorities to ensure the safety and protection of Nigerians abroad.
