Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have apprehended a village head, Chief Edet, of Asik Ubofa community over unlawful possession of a firearm.
According to reports, the suspect was arrested after security personnel recovered an AK-47 rifle in his possession during an operation. The discovery has raised concerns within the community, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding how the weapon was acquired.
Police sources disclosed that the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal arms and criminal activities across the state. The suspect is currently in custody and is expected to face charges upon the conclusion of investigations.
