The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has vowed to launch a full-scale investigation into a viral video showing suspected proxies impersonating candidates during one of its professional examinations.
In the widely circulated clip, a man identified only as Kay was reportedly apprehended for allegedly writing the exam on behalf of a bank manager. Similarly, a female suspect was caught inside the hall and, during interrogation, confessed she was impersonating a government official from Taraba State.
Responding to the development, ICAN, through a statement issued by its Registrar/Chief Executive, Mr. Lanre Olasunkanmi, reiterated its commitment to upholding global standards of integrity in its examination process. He stressed that the institute operates a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of malpractice, including impersonation.
“ICAN wishes to state unequivocally that it maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy for all forms of examination malpractice. The Institute’s examination processes are guided by globally accepted standards of integrity, and any attempt to compromise them is treated with the utmost seriousness,” the statement read.
Olasunkanmi further disclosed that the institute had already commenced a detailed investigation into the allegations and assured stakeholders that sanctions would be applied in line with existing regulations.
“In line with our commitment to transparency and accountability, ICAN has commenced a thorough investigation into the matter. Appropriate disciplinary measures will be enforced in accordance with established regulations, and the outcome will be communicated openly to all stakeholders,” he added.
