Iran has warned that it is prepared for a prolonged war of attrition that could severely damage the global economy, following fresh attacks on commercial vessels and rising tensions with the United States and its allies.
The warning came on Wednesday after Iranian forces reportedly fired on two commercial ships and issued threats against vessels linked to the United States or its allied nations.
Tehran has also tightened its grip on the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world’s most critical maritime routes for oil transportation. The strategic waterway connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, and a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes through it daily. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump suggested the conflict may soon come to an end. Speaking on the situation, Trump said the war could conclude “soon,” noting that there were limited remaining targets for U.S. forces to strike inside Iran.
The escalating tensions have raised concerns among global leaders and economic analysts, who warn that any prolonged disruption in the Strait of Hormuz could drive up oil prices, slow international trade, and trigger wider economic instability across global markets.
Security experts say the situation remains volatile as military activity continues in the region and diplomatic efforts to prevent a broader conflict are ongoing.
