A Nigerian lady has gone viral after sharing a lengthy and emotional account of her unpleasant experience at the Nigerian Embassy in London, describing it as one of the most exhausting and frustrating days of her life.
According to her narration, she and her father embarked on a four-hour journey from their city to London for her 11 a.m. passport renewal appointment. She explained that they arrived early, hoping for a smooth process — but what awaited them was, in her words, “absolute chaos from start to finish.
She revealed that upon arrival, the staff at the embassy insisted that every applicant must present a printed copy of their appointment slip, refusing to accept digital versions displayed on mobile phones. “We’re in 2025, but they still act like printers are the only proof of existence,” she lamented.
Things took an even stranger turn when they were asked to surrender their mobile phones at the entrance. According to her, this was to prevent people from recording the conditions inside. She joked that if anyone were allowed to film what truly goes on within the premises, “nobody would ever come here again.”
Describing the atmosphere, she said the waiting hall was overcrowded, hot, and noisy — a mixture of crying children, frustrated adults, and endless shouting from staff members who seemed overwhelmed by the crowd. After waiting for more than an hour, she was suddenly told that her birth certificate needed to be reprinted.
To her surprise, the so-called “printing office” was not an official setup but “a guy at the back of the building with three laptops, a printer, and some meat pies for sale.” She said she couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation — “only at the Nigerian Embassy can someone be printing official documents and selling snacks at the same time.”
When she returned with the new printout, she discovered her queue number had been skipped, and no one seemed to know who was next. “There were about twenty of us packed into a tiny, airless room. Nobody knew their number, and the staff didn’t seem to care. It was complete confusion,” she recounted.
After several hours of waiting and back-and-forth arguments, she was finally attended to. However, her frustration deepened when the embassy official allegedly dismissed her birth certificate without any explanation.
Drained and upset, she ended her video message with a mix of exhaustion and humor:
“If you’ve ever been to the Nigerian Embassy, you know exactly what I’m talking about. You enter smiling and hopeful, but by the time you’re done, your spirit is gone. Please, never bring me to this place again.
Her story has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians in the diaspora sharing similar experiences and calling for urgent reform in how the embassies operate.
