Hundreds of residents are still unaccounted for following a deadly attack by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on the Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to local sources, the attackers stormed the community in large numbers, firing gunshots and setting several houses ablaze, which forced thousands of residents to flee for safety. During the assault, many villagers were reportedly abducted and taken away by the insurgents.
Eyewitnesses said the attack created panic across the community as families ran into nearby bushes and neighboring towns to escape the violence. Several residents are feared injured, while the exact number of those abducted remains unclear as authorities and local leaders continue efforts to account for missing persons.
The assault has triggered another wave of displacement in the area, with many survivors seeking refuge in safer communities and internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.
Security forces have reportedly begun efforts to track down the attackers and rescue those abducted, while residents continue to search for missing relatives.
The Ngoshe attack adds to the growing security concerns in parts of Borno State, where communities have repeatedly faced attacks from insurgent groups over the years. Local authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant as security operations continue in the region.
