The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the neutralisation of three suspected bandits during a fierce gun battle with security operatives in border communities of the state.
According to police sources, the operation was carried out following credible intelligence about the movement of armed bandits who had been terrorising residents and engaging in kidnappings and other criminal activities in the area.
Security forces, comprising police operatives and other tactical units, were said to have stormed the bandits’ hideout, where the suspects opened fire on the operatives, leading to a prolonged exchange of gunfire. During the encounter, three of the suspected bandits were killed, while several others escaped into nearby bush paths with gunshot wounds.
Victims who had been abducted by the bandits were successfully rescued during the operation and have since been reunited with their families. No casualty was recorded among the security operatives.
Items recovered from the scene include AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and motorcycles believed to have been used by the bandits for raids and escape operations.
The Commissioner of Police in Gombe State commended the officers for their bravery and reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal elements across the state. He also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in border communities.
The police assured the public that a manhunt is ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the gang and dismantle remaining criminal networks operating in the area.
