President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared an uncompromising war on banditry, terrorism, and other violent crimes, announcing a ₦5.41 trillion allocation for Defence and Security in the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
The president made the declaration while presenting the budget proposal, stressing that his administration will show “zero tolerance” for violent non-state actors threatening Nigeria’s peace, unity, and economic stability. According to Tinubu, the substantial allocation underscores the government’s resolve to restore security across the country and protect citizens’ lives and property.
He explained that the funds will be channeled into strengthening the Armed Forces, intelligence gathering, internal security operations, and the acquisition of modern equipment and technology to combat evolving security threats. The allocation will also support improved welfare, training, and capacity building for security personnel.
Tinubu noted that insecurity remains one of the biggest obstacles to national development, discouraging investment, disrupting food production, and displacing communities. He said decisive action is required to dismantle criminal networks and reclaim territories affected by banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and insurgency.
Reaffirming his commitment, the president assured Nigerians that his administration would back security agencies with the resources and political will needed to succeed, warning criminals that there would be “no hiding place” for those who continue to unleash violence on the country.
The ₦5.41 trillion defence and security vote is one of the largest components of the proposed 2026 budget, reflecting the administration’s priority to stabilize the nation as a foundation for economic growth, job creation, and national prosperity.
