Security operatives of the Nigeria Police Force on Thursday arrested human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, at the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja.Eyewitnesses said Sowore was taken into custody shortly after arriving at the court for a scheduled public event.
The reason for his arrest remains unclear as of press time, but it reportedly caused a brief commotion within the court premises.Video clips circulating online show police officers forcibly escorting the activist into a waiting vehicle, despite his resistance and protests from onlookers.Sowore, a former presidential candidate and convener of the #RevolutionNow movement,
has faced several arrests in the past over his activism and criticism of government policies.Police authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the latest arrest.
