Tension flared in Dansadau town, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, after a member of the House of Representatives, Kabiru Mikailu, was reportedly attacked by angry youths during a community visit.
A viral video circulating on social media shows the visibly distressed lawmaker being dragged, shoved, and chased by a crowd, with stones allegedly hurled at him as he tried to escape the scene. Witnesses said the incident occurred when Mikailu arrived in the community, sparking outrage among residents who accused him of abandoning them despite persistent attacks by armed bandits.
According to locals, Dansadau and surrounding communities have endured repeated assaults, kidnappings, and loss of lives, leaving residents frustrated and fearful. The youths were said to have confronted the lawmaker over what they described as poor representation and a lack of meaningful intervention to address the worsening security situation.
Security operatives were later reported to have intervened to prevent the situation from escalating further, while the lawmaker was eventually escorted out of the area.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Mikailu nor security authorities had issued an official statement on the incident. The attack has since drawn widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians condemning the violence while also calling on elected officials to be more responsive to the needs of their constituents.
