Ifelodun, Kwara State — Nigerian soldiers have arrested a group of suspected bandits in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State, after they were found patrolling with AK-47 rifles in a security vehicle. The suspects were intercepted during a military operation and are currently in custody.
In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, the suspects were seen on the ground with their hands tied while soldiers questioned them about their activities and the source of the firearms. One suspect, speaking in Hausa and Nigerian Pidgin, alleged that the rifles and vehicle were provided by the Kwara State government and that the group had been conducting patrols under official directives.
The suspect further stated that the weapons were collected by their superior, referred to as “our oga,” rather than the group itself. He mentioned that several individuals, including “oga Victor,” were involved in obtaining the rifles.
He repeatedly maintained that the firearms were not personally owned by the group. Other detainees were heard chanting religious phrases during the interrogation.
As of now, neither the Kwara State government nor the Nigerian Army has issued an official statement regarding the arrests or the allegations.
