The Senate yesterday erupted in protest over what several lawmakers described as a selective enforcement of President Bola Tinubu’s directive to withdraw police orderlies from certain officials.
Senators argued that the withdrawal appeared arbitrary, affecting some lawmakers while sparing others, raising concerns about fairness and equal treatment. “If the order applies to us, it should apply across the board,” one senator said during the heated session, urging consistency in the application of security protocols.
President Tinubu, however, has maintained that the measure is necessary and justified, insisting that it does not single out any individual or group. Presidential aides noted that the withdrawal is part of a broader effort to rationalize security arrangements for public officials.

The debate highlighted ongoing tensions between the executive and legislative arms over security privileges, with senators demanding a review to ensure that the implementation is uniform and transparent.
The Senate is expected to continue discussions in the coming days to seek clarity and potentially propose guidelines for future adjustments to security assignments.
