A prominent traditional leader in Bauchi State has assured Nigerians that the implementation of Sharia law in the state poses no threat to Christians or followers of other faiths.
He explained that Sharia, as practised in Nigeria, is strictly guided by the Constitution and applies only to Muslims who willingly submit to its jurisdiction. According to him, the law does not override the rights or freedoms of Christians, nor does it interfere with their religious or civil activities.
The leader noted that misconceptions about Sharia often stem from misinformation.
He stressed that Christians remain fully protected under Nigerian law, and their rights to worship and live freely are guaranteed.
He urged citizens to promote peace, respect religious diversity, and avoid spreading narratives that could fuel tension, emphasising that harmonious coexistence remains a shared responsibility.
