A renewed clash between farmers and herders in Jigawa State has left one person dead, a police officer injured, and an entire village reduced to ashes.
According to local sources, the confrontation began after a dispute over farmland, which quickly escalated into a violent confrontation. Residents say tensions between both groups had been building for weeks before Tuesday’s outbreak of violence.
Security operatives were deployed to restore calm, but in the process, a police officer sustained injuries while attempting to disperse the feuding parties.
By the time reinforcements arrived, several houses in the affected village had already been set ablaze, leaving families displaced and properties destroyed.
Authorities say an investigation has begun to identify those responsible for the violence, while efforts are underway to prevent further escalation. Community leaders are also calling for urgent government intervention to address the long-standing issues fueling the conflict.
