The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called on Ndigbo across the country and in the diaspora to return home and celebrate this year’s Christmas season in the South-East, assuring them of safety and a peaceful festive atmosphere.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group dismissed fears of insecurity in the region and insisted that measures have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free holiday for all returning visitors. Powerful noted that the South-East remains safe for travel and festivities, urging those planning to spend the holidays elsewhere to reconsider and join their families at home.
He reiterated that IPOB remains committed to protecting the lives and property of residents, stressing that anyone returning for the festivities would experience calm, security, and communal warmth throughout the season.
The group also encouraged traditional institutions, community leaders, and local vigilantes to support efforts aimed at maintaining peace during the celebrations.
According to IPOB, Christmas remains an important cultural and religious period for the Igbo people, and returning home strengthens unity, family bonds, and regional identity.
