President Bola Tinubu has nominated the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence. The nomination comes a day after the former minister, Badaru Abubakar, resigned from office due to health-related reasons.
The President’s decision was announced on Tuesday, marking a swift move to fill the crucial security position. General Musa, who recently completed his tenure as CDS, is widely regarded for his experience in leading military operations and coordinating national security strategies.
Following the announcement, President Tinubu also met with the service chiefs at the Presidential Villa to discuss ongoing security challenges and the government’s renewed commitment to strengthening the nation’s defence architecture.
General Musa’s appointment is expected to reinforce ongoing military efforts against terrorism, banditry, and other security threats across the country.
