Sokoto Bride-To-Be Kidnapped Hours Before Wedding

News

A bride-to-be and several others were abducted by suspected bandits in Chacho village, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State, just hours before her wedding ceremony.

The attack occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday when armed men stormed the community and whisked away the bride, her bridesmaids, and eight other residents. All the victims were women except one man. One person who sustained injuries is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

A resident of the community described the incident as devastating, noting that the wedding, scheduled for later that morning, was cancelled.

He added that seven more women and one man were taken during the raid.

The resident also criticised what he called the slow response of security operatives, saying officials were alerted immediately but only arrived around 2:30 a.m.—long after the attackers had fled. He urged the government to strengthen security and safeguard citizens.

Confirming the attack, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, said investigations into the abduction were ongoing.
